When the name Real Madrid is mentioned, it evokes visions of glittering trophies, historic nights at the Santiago Bernabéu, and some of the greatest players to ever grace the sport. Founded in 1902, the club has transcended football, becoming a global symbol of excellence, passion, and dominance.

Humble Beginnings (1902–1940s)
Real Madrid’s story began on March 6, 1902, when brothers Juan and Carlos Padrós officially registered the club as Madrid Football Club. It didn’t take long for the team to make its mark, winning the inaugural Copa del Rey in 1905. The club was granted the title “Real” (meaning “Royal”) in 1920 by King Alfonso XIII, solidifying its identity as the club of the capital.

The early decades saw Madrid grow steadily, but it was in the post-war years that the club laid the foundations for global dominance.

The Golden Age of Di Stéfano (1950s–1960s)
The arrival of Alfredo Di Stéfano in 1953 marked a turning point. Alongside legends like Ferenc Puskás and Francisco Gento, Di Stéfano transformed Real Madrid into a footballing powerhouse. The club won five consecutive European Cups (1956–1960), an achievement unmatched to this day.

During this period, Real Madrid not only dominated Europe but also set the standard for attacking, stylish football. The famous 7–3 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the 1960 European Cup final remains one of the most celebrated matches in history.
